Tottenham Hotspur have made a bold decision, sacking Ange Postecoglou weeks after he guided them to Europa League glory, their first piece of silverware in 17 years. It is safe to say that a large section of their fan base does not agree with the move. But life goes on, and it looks like Spurs have a Celtic player on their radar, who was brought to Parkhead by the Australian.
Before joining Celtic, Postecoglou was the manager of Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan. And when he made the move to Parkhead, he did not waste much time before bringing Daizen Maeda to the club.
In the three-and-a-half years since then, Maeda has developed into Celtic's and Scottish football's best player. Now, he is being linked with a move away with the Hoops believed to be looking for a transfer fee in the region of £25 million.
Reports in Turkey have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring the situation of Maeda. He is also wanted by Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce.
Tottenham tipped to sign Celtic player despite Ange Postecoglou sack
Maeda scored 33 goals and provided 12 assists in 51 appearances last season. So, he has shown drastic improvement when it comes to his finishing, something that was seen as a weakness in his game in the past.
On the other hand, his work-rate and pressing remain just as impressive. The Japanese forward is very important in helping his team press from the front and keeping the opposition defence under pressure at all times. That is the type of football that a lot of managers like to play.
So, someone like Maeda could be invaluable to whoever ends up replacing Postecoglou as Tottenham Hotspur manager. Let's see if Spurs are able to agree a deal with Celtic, or even make one, for the Japanese international.
