This summer transfer window is expected to be a busy one for Celtic. The Hoops might be closing in on a treble but there are a number of areas where they have seemed light on options in the second half of the campaign. Hopefully, the Glasgow giants will look to make additions in those positions before the Champions League qualifiers begin.
For a long time, Celtic have been linked with strikers. That was the case even before Kyogo Furuhashi left the club for Rennes in the winter transfer window.
Names like Mathias Kvistgaarden, David Strelec and more are believed to be transfer targets for Celtic. But will they make a move for another striker this summer?
While it has not been ruled out, striker does not appear to be a priority position for Celtic. Instead, they are focusing on strengthening three other areas of the pitch. While speaking with the Daily Record, Scott Burns said:
"I think it’ll definitely be a busy summer. But the information I was given previously was that centre forward wasn’t a priority.
“It was a right-sided winger and a couple of midfielders, a central midfielder and a defensive midfielder, where the priorities the Celtic recruitment team had put out in recent weeks to obviously attract any availability. So, unless they’ve already got a centre forward lined up, those were the priorities at that stage."
Three signings Celtic want to make this summer named
Of course, that does fit all the speculation that we have been hearing over the last few weeks. Celtic have been linked with plenty of midfielders lately.
It is very possible that that is a result of the uncertainty over the future of Reo Hatate. Having arrive at the club in the winter of 2022, the Japanese midfielder might feel that the time has come for him to leave and take on a new challenge.
On the other hand, Celtic had tried to sign another winger in the winter and failed. And there is the likelihood that Nicolas Kuhn could be on his way out of the club this summer, having been linked with a number of clubs lately.
To be fair, Celtic were believed to be interested in a striker in January as well. But that was before seeing how well Daizen Maeda performed in that position. So, it is very possible that the priorities have changed now and they are seeing strengthening in those other three positions as a more urgent task at hand.
