There are a number of players who might not have a long-term future at Celtic and could be on their way out of the club in the summer transfer window. Some of them are struggling to get into Brendan Rodgers' team at the moment. On the other hand, there are others who are already out on loan deals across Europe.
Celtic's transfer policy certainly needs to be questioned, considering the number of players who have struggled to make a mark in Rodgers' team despite being signed under his watch. One name that falls under that category is that of Gustaf Lagerbielke.
The Swedish centre-back was signed in the summer of 2023. But from the very beginning, it seemed clear that he was not the type of player who would fit Rodgers' system. As the season progressed, he lost his place in the team and that was not a major surprise to anybody.
Lagerbielke is currently out on loan at FC Twente and has played a decent bit of football for them as a regular starter. And it looks like he can see a future for himself in Holland.
Celtic player drops biggest hint yet that he wants to leave
As reported by the Daily Record, Lagerbielke said:
"I want to play and I feel very comfortable in Holland. I can definitely imagine a future there."
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Lagerbielke at FC Twente but it does not feel like he will have much of a role at Celtic, even if he did make a return to Parkhead in the summer. So, a move away on a permanent basis might be the best step for all parties involved at this point in time.
That being said, the defender has faced a decent bit of criticism in Holland recently as well. So, it remains to be seen whether the Dutch club would be open to signing him on a permanent basis or not.
