Yang has smashed an obscure Scottish Premiership record with his goals against Motherwell at the weekend, beating out a former Celt for first place.

Yang's double against Jen Berthel Askou's side sent Celtic Park into bedlam, and it sent the Hoops well on their way to three points. Those points are going to be crucial in the title race.

Not only were his goals key to the season, but they beat out a record set by former Celtic striker Hyeon-gyu Oh.

Yang got his tally for Celtic up to 12 goals with his double, and that takes him above Oh in the list of all-time SPFL South Korean goalscorers. Before he left for Genk, Oh had 11 goals for the club, and now, that record has been beaten, with Yang writing his name in the history books.

The winger has long struggled to get a good run in the Celtic team but is now a mainstay. In 37 appearances this season, he has eight goals and one assist, but it's more than just statistics because his performances have massively influenced matches under Martin O'Neill.

Yang hitting form at the perfect time

Some supporters feel that Yang took too long to find his form in a Celtic shirt. Combining both seasons 23/24 and 24/25, Yang had seven goals and nine assists in 65 appearances, which is less than what you would expect from a Hoops winger. However, he is finally hitting the form we've all been hoping for.

He was almost on his way out in the summer as well, but his potential move to Birmingham City fell through. It says a lot about the player that he managed to pull himself back up and just get on with it, and he revealed in a recent interview how that deal not happening is part of the reason why he has had a resurgence in Glasgow.

Yang is contracted to the club until 2028, and some fans now see him as one of the club's most consistent players. He is a real asset to Celtic, even if his stats haven't backed up over the last few years, and hopefully, under the next manager, he will continue to thrive.

Considering that the South Korean international was bought for just £2.1 million, that makes him a bargain. Fans are praying that in the summer, the board will finally spend the cash needed to bring in quality players, but the signing of Yang does go to show that we still shouldn't rule out players just because they're cheap.
