Celtic have already completed one signing this winter, bringing in Julian Araujo on loan from Bournemouth for the rest of the season. They have also made a bid for Jocelin Ta Bi, with the Ivorian winger also expected to be on the move this January. And now, it appears that the Hoops have their eyes set on a potential third addition as well.
It would be a bit of a confusing move, though. Why? Well, because it is also the third player who operates down the right flank after Araujo and Ta Bi.
The player in question is none other than Ignacio Laquintana. He is currently on the books at RB Bragantino and has spent his entire career so far playing in South American leagues. At 26 years of age, is a move to Europe on the cards for the Uruguayan international?
As reported by The Celtic Way, Laquintana is keen to join the Scottish club. Talks were held over the weekend, and a loan-to-buy deal is possible in the January transfer window.
'Talks were held' - Uruguayan international keen to join Celtic
Laquintana could be a solid addition to this Celtic team, whether they also sign Ta Bi alongside him or not. The former would bring the kind of experience and pedigree that the latter simply would not.
Ta Bi would be more of a project signing. The 20-year-old has only played 40 senior games so far in his career and none at the top level.
In contrast, Laquintana has a lot more pedigree. He has played for top clubs like Santos in Brazil and Penarol in Uruguay. Also, he has been part of the Uruguayan national team picture in recent times, making a couple of appearances and even scoring a goal for them.
It is pretty clear that Celtic have been keeping a close eye on the South American leagues in recent years. In the summer, they signed Marcelo Saracchi on loan from Boca Juniors. Before that, they had brought in Alexandro Bernabei from Lanus. Now, could they sign Laquintana from RB Bragantino?
