Ange Postecoglou did not spend a long time managing Celtic. He was at the club for a couple of years and managed to win five trophies in that time. While that is an amazing feat, success is not new for the Hoops. The connection that the Australian was able to build with the fans was something special though.
To be very honest, he has not gotten that at Tottenham Hotspur. Even after delivering silverware at Spurs following a 17-year gap, there is a good portion of their fanbase that wants to see him depart this summer.
So, it is almost understandable that Postecoglou would have a soft spot for a club like Celtic, where he was loved unanimously by the fans. And it looks like the Australian continues to keep an eye out for his former side, even though it has been a couple of years since he left.
As reported by the Daily Record, Tottenham Hotspur assistant head coach Nick Montgomery said:
"Ange loved his time at Celtic.
“I think he cherishes those times at Celtic, it's a massive club.
“It’s used to winning and when you go in there the pressure is on that you continue that trend and you have to win.
“Probably, people doubted him but Ange managed to do that. He's always watching the Celtic games and the A-League games and the Japanese games.
“We always have them on in the coach's office. He obviously really enjoyed his time there and no doubt he's really happy for the success again this year."
Superb claim made about Ange Postecoglou's love for Celtic
The circumstances in which Postecoglou arrived had a lot to do with the bond that he would go on to build with the supporters. For a long time, it had looked like Eddie Howe was going to be appointed as manager before a late twist in the tale. The Australian was brought in as a late replacement when the move for the Englishman fell through.
Celtic were coming off a season in which they had finished not only trophyless but 25 points behind the Rangers in the league. Key players like Odsonne Edouard, Kris Ajer, Ryan Christie and Scott Brown were leaving in the same window.
So, most people had written the Hoops off, just like they had written off Postecoglou's chances of success. As a result, when he was able to rebuild the team and deliver success in such a short span of time, he became a club legend, even though his stint was not long.
