Every summer, players arrive and depart Celtic. Some moves the fans are happy with, others they are not. But it is an important part of the game. In this cycle, loan deals are important as well. They help those struggling for playing time at Parkhead to go out and develop, so that they can make a mark in the Hoops' first-team in the future or earn themselves a permanent move.
That must have been the plan with Gustaf Lagerbielke as well when he was sent out on loan to FC Twente, just a year after he was signed from IF Elfsborg. The Swede had failed to establish himself in the team and did not look like a Brendan Rodgers-type player.
Lagerbielke was doing pretty well early on at FC Twente but his form dipped in the second half of the season. Now, it is believed to be unlikely that he will return to the Dutch club.
On the other hand, it looks like they have a Rangers defender in their sights as a potential replacement. As reported by SoccerNews, FC Twente are very seriously interested in bringing Robin Propper back to the club. One of the big goals this summer is to get the experienced defender back from the Ibrox club.
Celtic player's exit confirmed and Rangers man wanted as replacement
Propper had been FC Twente's captain before joining the Rangers. And it is safe to say that his debut campaign with the Scottish club was not much to write home about as they finished trophyless.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Propper but that is not what Celtic will be worried about. Instead, their focus will be on Lagerbielke.
It is unlikely that the Swede will have a role in Rodgers' team, even if he returns this season. So, the best step for him would be to leave on loan again or on a permanent basis, although finding him a new home might not be simple, especially if Celtic want to recoup a significant portion of the transfer fee they shelled out to sign him.
