Who will Celtic sign in the upcoming January transfer window? That is a question a lot of fans are waiting to find the answer to. There are a number of positions where the Hoops need to bring in reinforcements as soon as possible. That is much easier said than done though, when you consider how tricky it can be signing players in the middle of the campaign.
Of course, January won't be the middle of the campaign for everybody. The MLS season is over. And could Celtic look towards Wilfried Nancy's previous league to provide him with some help? More specifically, his former club.
Wessam Abou Ali is someone Celtic have been linked with since Nancy arrived as the club's manager. He made merely five appearances under the Frenchman at Columbus Crew but did manage to score three times.
A move to Celtic would make sense for Ali. But it looks like a different European club have taken the lead in the race to sign him as we wait to figure out whether the Hoops are even in the running or not.
Striker in official talks over January move amid Celtic links
As reported by the Daily Record, reports in Turkey suggest Trabzonspor have already opened official talks with Columbus Crew over a potential loan deal. Ali himself is understood to be keen on a move to the Turkish club during the MLS off-season.
Now, it remains to be seen if the move to Turkey does end up materialising for Ali or not. Will Celtic make an official approach themselves? Or are the rumours regarding their interest wide of the mark?
Whether it is Ali or somebody else, Celtic need to make sure that they do sign a consistent goalscorer this winter. Johnny Kenny is not good enough and Kelechi Iheanacho is injury-prone.
