Can Celtic make it five wins out of five to start the new Premiership season? On Wednesday night, Martin O'Neill's team demolished Aberdeen 3-0 at Parkhead, with all the goals coming before the interval; Camilo Durán, Benjamin Nygren and Yang Hyun-jun all on target, with the Colombian's rasping strike the pick of the bunch.
The Hoops start to the season, on the domestic front at least, has been flawless, picking up 12 points out of 12 thus far. Had it not been for a collapse in Linz, optimism and belief would be sky-high. This though is the start of a crucial fortnight, in which O'Neill's team will play five matches.
The next two weekends, Celtic will take on Rangers, first visiting Ibrox in the League Cup next Sunday, before a Premiership rematch at Parkhead a week later. The Hoops also have to squeeze in a trip to McDiarmid Park on Wednesday, as well as facing Ferencváros in their Europa League opener. Five matches in 16 days will be challenging, but they cannot look past the first of those challenges.
St Mirren meantime famously beat Celtic 3-1 in December's League Cup Final at Hampden, securing only the club's fifth major honour. However, after Stephen Robinson departed in March, the Buddies sunk like a stone, only staying up by virtue of beating Partick Thistle 2-1 in the play-offs.
This time though, Craig McLeish's team have their sights set rather higher than 11th. In mid-week, Fraser Taylor's fourth minute goal was enough to defeat bottom of the table Kilmarnock at Rugby Park. As a result, the Buddies have ten points on the board after four matches, keeping a clean sheet during their three of their victories.
Last season, all three Premiership encounters between the pair finished 1-0 to Celtic. This included Callum McGregor's 95th minute rocket to pinch the points right at the death the last time they visited Paisley. So, will this latest encounter at the Marbill Coaches Stadium be just as close?
