This summer transfer window is going to be a vital one for Celtic for multiple reasons. After showing progress in the Champions League, and with Brendan Rodgers entering the final year of his contract, it is important for the Hoops to make the right signings to improve the squad. At the same time, they cannot overlook the importance of keeping the core of their team together.

That is pretty much the aim every summer though. But inevitably, we always see one or more key players leave. Last time around, it was Matt O'Riley who joined Brighton & Hove Albion while Kyogo headed for the exit door in the winter and signed with Rennes.

Celtic fans are pretty used to seeing their favourites leave. And after the season that he has had, it is unsurprising that Daizen Maeda is being linked with a move away.

A number of teams have been linked with a move for Maeda. Leeds United, who will be making their return to the Premier League next season, have been backed to sign him.

As reported by Football League World, Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie said about the Maeda to Leeds United speculation:

"Leeds are obviously linked with Celtic forward Maeda, 62 goals in 156 appearances for Celtic.

"I've said all along that Leeds are going to be linked with so many centre-forwards. Patrick Bamford probably isn't going to be around, Piroe has done very well but I think at times he's more of a 10, so they do need someone who is a bit more prolific.

"He's got experience and he's scored goals. The jump from coming down from Scotland to stepping into a Leeds side who will be expected to compete, you do think it could be half a gamble.

"But when you look at the numbers he has produced for Celtic, I don't think it would be a bad signing."

Maeda has always been highly rated for his pressing ability and nonstop energy. That is vital to how Celtic play on the front foot. But this season, he has added goals to his game as well and plenty of them, scoring 33 times already.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for him. Celtic fans will be hoping that Maeda stays at the club beyond this season but the player himself has kept his cards close to his chest and not made any commitment so far. So, all we can do is wait and watch how things unfold.
