Defensive midfield is one position where Celtic are believed to be looking to strengthen heading into the summer transfer window. A few weeks earlier, it felt like they were being linked with a new number 6 pretty much every day. In recent times, the rumour mill has been a bit quieter in that regard. But that does not mean that the search is no longer on.
In fact, a new name now appears to have emerged on Celtic's radar. It is one that they might have a decent chance of signing given the circumstances.
VfL Bochum are set to be relegated from the Bundesliga, as they find themselves bottom of the table. This is expected to lead to the departure of a number of their players, who want to continue playing top-flight football, over the summer.
As reported by Africafoot, Celtic are one of the clubs interested in Ibrahima Sissoko of Bochum. Werder Bremen, VfB Stuttgart, Fenerbahce and Bayer Leverkusen also want him. The player's release clause is estimated at €10 million.

Sissoko came through the ranks at Brest. He would then spend six seasons playing Ligue 1 football for Strasbourg. It was just last summer that he joined VfL Bochum but now, it looks like he is set to be on the move again.
Judging from the competition, it is safe to say that Celtic might have a tough time signing Sissoko. The wages could be a minor stumbling block as well. He is said to have a gross annual salary estimated at around €1.5 million.
The issue is, whichever defensive midfielder Celtic end up signing in the summer is not going to be a guaranteed starter. That is because the Hoops do not need a player there in most of their games. So, will they go out and make him one of their highest earners?
