Celtic don't seem to learn from their mistakes. Every transfer saga appears to be filled with multiple failed offers before a deal can be reached. Of course, that takes time. And often, it allows other teams a chance to swoop in ahead of them and convince the transfer target elsewhere. That might be about to happen with Kasper Dolberg.

For the last several days, it has been believed that Dolberg is Celtic's top target at striker as they look to bring in a goalscorer amid their struggles in front of goal. Of course, that is a pretty good pick.

But last night, rumours emerged that Celtic were preparing a third bid for Dolberg, having seen the first two turned down. Still, there was hope that a move would happen.

Now though, it looks like the entire operation is on the verge of a collapse. Ajax have swooped in and could be ready to sign their former player.

As reported by Sky Sports, Ajax are now pressing ahead in their bid to get ahead of Celtic's move for Dolberg. The Dutch club are now in talks over a permanent deal after the striker confirmed that he would prefer to join them.

Well, that might very well be the end of the Dolberg transfer saga for Celtic. And once again, when it mattered, the Hoops seem to have come up short. That's been the story on and off the pitch for a while now.

Celtic needed to make this signing. And it looked like they had enough time to do so. But once again, it dragged on for longer than it should have and the Hoops might end up paying the price.

At this point, one can only hope that Celtic are the ones who are able to make a better offer than Ajax to complete Dolberg's signing. But we have seen this movie many times before. Rarely has it had a happy ending for Hoops fans.
