It is safe to say that things have gone from bad to worse for the Rangers over the past week or so. They decided to sack Russell Martin following his terrible 123-day stint at Ibrox that left the club 9 points adrift of Celtic and 11 behind Hearts in the Premiership table. On top of that, they lost both their Europa League games and were handed a 9-1 aggregate defeat by Club Brugge before that.

Following Martin's sacking, it was very clear who the Rangers fans wanted to replace him. Steven Gerrard was the man the majority of them were pushing for, despite his first run at Ibrox bringing just one trophy in three-plus years.

The good times were what they chose to remember. But unfortunately for them, Gerrard appears to have rejected the chance to reunite with the Ibrox club, even though he is without a managerial post right now.

Of course, that has left the Rangers scrambling for alternatives, as they clearly were trying to bring in Gerrard as well. But as it turns out, two more managers are out of the race for the Ibrox job. It is not hard to see why Celtic fans will be enjoying how this entire situation is playing out for their Glasgow rivals.

As reported by Sky Sports, Rangers did sound out Graham Potter and Gary O'Neil. But it is understood that both are not in the frame for the job.

First of all, neither of those names would have worried Celtic fans. But even then, it is a problem for the Rangers that two other managers that they had sounded out are now out of contention for the Ibrox post.

Let's see how things play out for the club from here. Danny Rohl has emerged as the favourite right now. And while he did show potential, it is a very different task managing expectations at Rangers compared to Sheffield Wednesday.
