Celtic fans must have been delighted to see the Rangers drop points on day one of the new Scottish Premiership season. It just went on to show that despite a change in ownership and manager over the summer, not a lot has changed at Ibrox. One cannot deny though that they are making signings right now.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about Celtic. The Hoops have moved at a glacial pace in the transfer window recently and do not seem to be showing any urgency when it comes to getting deals over the line, even though the league campaign has started and the Champions League qualifiers are not far away either.
Celtic need to sign players urgently and one of the most highly-rated ones they have been linked with recently is Jakob Breum of Go Ahead Eagles. Incidentally, the Rangers have agreed a deal to sign one of his teammates.
As reported by Sky Sports, Rangers have agreed a £3 million deal in principle to sign Go Ahead Eagles winger Oliver Antman. He can play on both wings and as a number 10.
Sky Sports confirm Rangers deal that could be bad news for Celtic
Antman might not be the Go Ahead Eagles player that Celtic wanted. But one should not overlook the impact the move could have on their chances of signing Breum this summer.
Firstly, will Go Ahead Eagles be ready to part with two of their best players in the same summer window? Secondly, the move does give the Dutch club a stronger negotiation position, with a £3 million fee set to come in already.
This is why it is important to move quickly in the transfer market. Celtic are believed to have made multiple offers for Breum already but all of them were far below the fee that Go Ahead Eagles want in order to part ways with him.
