While the need of the hour for Celtic is to add a few players to their ranks before the Champions League qualifier play-off tie against Kairat Almaty, there does not seem to be anything imminent on that end as of right now. On the other hand, their current ones continue to be linked with moves away from Parkhead.

Recently, the club announced that Dane Murray had signed a new long-term contract extension. One would imagine that Brendan Rodgers has been impressed with him and the plan is to hand him some playing time moving forward. He did score against Falkirk.

On the other hand, Murray's extension does raise question marks around the future of Stephen Welsh. He was expected to join KV Mechelen at one point but that has not materialised. Instead, it looks like his next destination could be England.

As reported by Sky Sports, Plymouth Argyle have made an improved offer of a season-long loan deal, with an option to buy. Celtic are considering the English League One club's offer for Welsh, but are being mindful of other players who may leave the club on loan.

At this point, it feels like it would make sense for all parties involved to part ways. Welsh clearly does not have a future at Celtic as things stand.

Earlier in Rodgers' second stint as Celtic boss, it had looked like Welsh was set to be handed some more playing time. Those with a keen memory will remember that he was handed an extension that summer as well.

But he would end up suffering an injury early on in that season and spent several months out on the sidelines. By the time he was back, he had slipped down the pecking order quite a bit.
