Celtic might have managed a win away at Falkirk, but their performance just highlighted the need for a striker or two in this squad. They simply do not have someone at the moment who can convert the chances that Martin O'Neill's side are creating. Benjamin Nygren, despite his poor finishing, is the Hoops' top scorer with 12 goals to his name so far this season. That is further proof of how light they are on consistent goalscorers as things stand.

So far in the January transfer window, they have only been able to complete one signing, bringing in Julian Araujo on loan from Bournemouth. Other than that, they have failed to get any deal done, despite reportedly working on plenty.

Over the last few days, rumours regarding a move for a striker have been ramping up though. And now, some of the most reliable outlets in the game are confirming the speculation.

As reported by Sky Sports, Celtic and Derby County are among a number of clubs that have expressed an interest in David Datro Fofana. It’s understood that the Hoops are exploring a possible permanent move for the Chelsea striker, while the English Championship side are also open to a loan until the end of the season.

Datro Fofana has never quite made the grade at Chelsea. He has made 4 appearances for the Blues and never scored for them.

Datro Fofana is currently out on loan at Turkish side Fatih Karagumruk. He has actually been decent for them, scoring 7 goals in 14 appearances for them.

Incidentally, Celtic had tried to sign Datro Fofana on the deadline day of the summer transfer window. But the striker turned down the chance to join the Hoops, in favour of a move to Sheffield United, only for that to collapse at the last minute as well.

Despite that history, it looks like Celtic are exploring a move for Datro Fofana again. While he is currently out on a temporary basis at Fatih Karagumruk, if he can secure a permanent move, or be loaned out domestically, it will free up an international loan space for Chelsea.
