Celtic have recently sacked Wilfried Nancy and brought back Martin O'Neill as interim manager until the end of the season. That has taken some pressure off the board. That being said, the situation is still far from ideal. The Northern Irishman did win seven of his eight games in charge earlier this season, but if that kind of form is to be rediscovred and sustained over a long period of time, the squad needs to be strengthened.

Right now, Celtic simply do not have enough depth or quality in multiple positions. If those areas are strengthened over this winter transfer window, there is a chance that they could turn things around in the second half of the campaign under O'Neill and challenge for the league title.

One area in need of immediate reinforcements is striker. And the club are looking at a familiar face in that regard, with a blockbuster January return on the cards.

As reported by Sky Sports, Celtic have made a loan enquiry with Birmingham City for the potential return of Kyogo Furuhashi. The English club are currently considering the move and the clubs remain in talks.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Kyogo. He has scored just once this season in 25 appearances since joining Birmingham City in the summer.

His entire run since leaving Celtic has been a failure, to be very honest about it. The Japanese striker could do with a change of scenery right now. Why not return to a place where he knows he can score goals consistently?

Many might question whether it makes sense to bring in a striker who is completely out of form and short of confidence at the moment. Then again, this might be the perfect move for both parties right now.
