It is no secret that Celtic need to sign a striker, perhaps more than one, in this ongoing January transfer window. The Hoops simply do not have enough quality up top at this point in time. That was one of the things that let Wilfried Nancy down during his eight-game stint in the Parkhead hot seat. While a lot of chances were created in some of those games, there was nobody to put them away.

Johnny Kenny has done some stuff well but is not a good finisher at all. Shin Yamada has barely been a feature since his summer arrival. Kelechi Iheanacho has proven to be injury-prone, and even when fit, he has scored just once from open play in ten games for Celtic. Callum Wilson was showing a ton of promise before getting injured. And Daizen Maeda's purple patch in front of goal is well and truly over.

So, one can only hope that Celtic go out and sign some quality up top this January. One of the players they have been backed to sign is Callum Wilson.

Wilson has scored four goals since joining West Ham United but is believed to be in talks to terminate his contract with the Hammers. If he does end up becoming a free agent, Celtic have been suggested as a potential destination for the 33-year-old English striker.

Recently, we have seen Chris Sutton talk about the possibility of such a move. Now, Alan Stubbs has given it his backing as well.

As reported by the Daily Record, Stubbs said regarding a potential Wilson to Celtic move:

"I think he's quality, there's no doubt he's quality. If Celtic were to get Wilson, and he is playing to the levels that he can be, he's the best striker in Scotland."

It remains to be seen if Celtic do end up making a move for Wilson. He has had his fair share of injury problems himself. The last thing the Hoops need right now is another one of those strikers. That being said, if it works out, it could be great.
