Just like that, the first half of the January transfer window is already gone. So far, Celtic have managed to make just one signing. That, too, is a loan deal for Julian Araujo, who had played just one game for Bournemouth in the ongoing campaign before his switch to Parkhead. To be fair, it looks like he is going to be involved a lot more moving forward.
On the other hand, there are a number of positions where Celtic need to strengthen over the coming weeks. The top priority has to be bringing in a new striker as soon as possible.
Celtic do not have a reliable goalscorer at this point in time. As a result of that, they have struggled to get the better of several teams, even when they have created a ton of chances.
Fortunately, it looks like Celtic are stepping up their pursuit for a striker this month. And their interest in a player in top form has now been confirmed by one of the most reliable outlets.
Sky Sports confirm brilliant Celtic transfer rumour
As reported by Sky Sports, Celtic are exploring the conditions of a deal for NK Celje forward Franko Kovacevic. The Hoops have ramped up their pursuit of a striker in the last 48 hours, with enquiries made on a number of targets.
This is what Celtic fans will have wanted to hear. Kovacevic is someone who does look like capable of coming in and scoring a lot of goals for the Hoops at this point in time.
Kovacevic is a man in form. This season, he has scored 25 goals already for his current side in just 28 games. So, it would be a brilliant move on the part of Celtic if they can get a deal done for him in the winter window.
Kovacevic is not the only striker Celtic appear to be exploring a move for at this point either. They are also believed to have made enquiries for the likes of David Datro Fofana, Mohamed Bamba and Philip Otele.
