Over the past week, there has been very little to be happy about if you are a Celtic fan. They have seen key players depart and their side lose 5-1 at the hands of Ajax, in what was a wake-up call about where this team stand right now. There is plenty of room to improve but not enough eagerness has been shown to do it.

Celtic's highest fee paid this summer has been the £1.5 million for Benjamin Nygren. And while it set to stay that way, at least the Hoops have made a positive movement in the transfer market.

As reported by Anthony Joseph, Celtic have agreed a loan deal to sign Manchester City's centre-back Jahmai Simpson-Pusey. He will be at Parkhead until next summer.

Earlier in the day, Fabrizio Romano had already dropped the news that it was going to happen. And now, the agreement has been confirmed by arguably the most reliable journalist when it comes to Scottish football. So, this one is as good as done.

There is a lot to like about this move. First of all, Simpson-Pusey is an elite talent and very highly-regarded at Manchester City. He has made six senior appearances for Pep Guardiola's side. While Celtic won't be able to sign him on a permanent basis, he has the potential to do extremely well during his stint at Parkhead.

Of course, many might feel that he is just 19 years of age and not ready to make his mark. But then, look at players like Lamine Yamal and Jeremie Frimpong during his time at Celtic. Age is just a number in modern football.

It also means though that Celtic have passed on signing some experienced centre-backs they were linked with earlier in the summer. That will come as a disappointment to many, as the club have gone for the short-term fix again.
