After weeks of waiting, it looks like Celtic are finally set to end their drought in the transfer market and make an addition to Brendan Rodgers' squad. It is a move that is going to divide the opinion of the fans though, as many believe that the Hoops have shown a clear lack of ambition this summer. It is hard to argue with that point of view when their next signing is going to be a season-long loan deal.

Most supporters have always believed that Celtic needed to strengthen at centre-back this summer. That need became even more urgent after the departures of Gustaf Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki, while Stephen Welsh continues to be linked with a move away as well.

Well, Celtic will be adding to their ranks at centre-back. That news has been confirmed by the most reliable journalist in world football.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Jahmai Simpson-Pusey is set to join Celtic from Manchester City. He will sign with the Hoops on loan until June 2026.

This move has been particularly quick. It has only been in the rumour mill for the past couple of days and the Scottish champions deserve credit for finding a breakthrough already.

Hopefully, Simpson-Pusey will have a successful stint at Celtic, even though there is very little chance that it will be anything more than a season-long loan. Even then, there is the scope for him to make a positive impact at Parkhead, which is all anyone can ask for.

Celtic have Cameron Carter-Vickers as a mainstay in the heart of their defence but other than that, there is some uncertainty around that position. One has to wonder whether Simpson-Pusey is being brought in as a starter or someone who will provide depth to the squad. One would imagine it is the former. Otherwise, it is hard to imagine that Manchester City would have okayed the move.
