Celtic striker Johnny Kenny left the club ahead of the English deadline, returning to the EFL, this time with Preston North End. Kenny was expected to rejoin Bolton Wanderers after his impressive loan spell there last season, but while Bolton were in for him, he was offered better and longer terms elsewhere.
Kenny scored six times in 14 league games for Bolton in League One last season, helping them to the playoffs, which they eventually won, but suffering an injury on the way.
Celtic assistant Shaun Maloney said earlier in this window that Kenny was wanted at the club, but a departure always looked likely due to Callum Osmand also being ahead of him, along with the more senior Kasper Hogh and Camilo Duran.
A few clubs expressed an interest ahead of the English deadline, but Preston won the race, agreeing a £3million with Celtic.
North End boss Paul Heckingbottom said: "He's a player who likes to play on the last line and make runs in behind; he's a sharp player.
"He's lively in the box and will look to get shots off, left foot, right foot. He works hard for the team. We need to do a lot of work with him tactically in terms of how we're going to use him but that's the exciting bit now."
For Kenny, it's a good opportunity for him to pick up where he left off down South, and indeed to play regular football, now 23 years of age and likely not wanting to be a fourth-choice player at Parkhead.
Meanwhile, the Hoops went out and signed Chelsea youngster Shim Mheuka as a replacement, and they likely felt they needed to do that because of Duran playing out wide on the right, meaning there are effectively two strikers available while the Colombian is playing there.
