Celtic's upcoming signing of Kasper Hogh is likely to mean a departure from the front line. The Bhoys are expected to announce the signing of Hogh within the next day or so, with the Dane heading to Parkhead on an £11million deal that has additional add-ons built in.
It is a statement signing from the Bhoys, who were in need of another striker signing after being turned down by Kelechi Iheanacho. But the arrival will likely mean a departure in the front line.
Celtic likely to sell young forward
With the arrival of Kogh, it was always likely that Celtic would allow 23-year-old forward Johnny Kenny to leave the club. Kenny is behind Callum Osmand, who is younger, and Martin O'Neill is only likely to want three strikers on hand.
Kenny spent last season on loan with Bolton Wanderers, making 14 league appearances and scoring an impressive six goals, but he suffered a knee injury at the end of the campaign.
Bolton ultimately won promotion to the Championship via the playoffs, though, and they are now said to be interested in re-signing Kenny, this time on a permanent deal.
Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph has reported: "Bolton Wanderers are keen to re-sign Celtic striker Johnny Kenny. The Hoops will be willing to listen to offers once they've completed the signing of Bodo/Glimt’s Kasper Hogh. He's recovering from a knee injury, so interested clubs have been monitoring his situation."
Kenny is back in training following his knee injury, but he is likely on a reduced workload as he looks to get back to full strength. Then it could be on to pastures now for the striker, who will likely be on board with a move back to Bolton, given how well he did there before, albeit the Championship will be a step up.
Kenny was once backed for big things
Speaking back in January of 2025, then Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers said of Kenny's debut: "It was absolutely brilliant. A young Irish guy who came in a few years ago and he obviously went back out and done really well. He scored goals regularly, scored in Europe for Shamrock.
"To then come in and be given that opportunity, I was so pleased for him because it just means everything to him and for any of the young players. He's deserved that wee run out that he's had.
He came in...he energised the game."
