Celtic have been moving at a snail's pace when it comes to completing signings in recent weeks. The Hoops did do some decent business earlier in the window. There is not much that needs to be said about Kieran Tierney's quality and Benjamin Nygren looks like a classy addition as well. Even Hayato Inamura, who was expected to be sent out on loan, has impressed and might have an immediate future at Parkhead.
Beyond that, Celtic have not made any impactful signings though. On the other hand, players like Nicolas Kuhn, Greg Taylor, Luis Palma, Gustaf Lagerbielke, Maik Nawrocki and more have left this summer, on loan and permanently.
So, are Celtic stronger than they were this time a year ago? No is the answer. That should never be the case. The focus has to be on constantly improving and getting better. The good news is, they seem to be favourites to sign a highly-rated Premier League talent, albeit only on loan.
As reported by Manchester Evening News, Celtic lead the transfer chase for Man City's Jahmai Simpson-Pusey. There are talks over a loan deal and the Hoops are ahead of a number of Championship clubs.
Celtic now named favourites to sign Premier League player
Simpson-Pusey is a very highly-rated defender at Manchester City. Not only is he a quality talent, with six senior caps under his belt, but he is a leader as well. So, Celtic could definitely do with someone like him at the back.
Of course, it is hard for a 19-year-old to come in and be a starter for a club like Celtic. He will have to compete with the likes of Auston Trusty and Liam Scales, if the move does end up happening.
But Simpson-Pusey does seem like the level of talent that Celtic should be aiming for this summer. Let's hope that the move ends up going through soon.
