A lot of former Celtic players have been, or will be, on the move this summer. Jeremie Frimpong has already completed a switch to Liverpool, helping the Hoops in the process with a significant sell-on fee. On the other hand, there are plenty others being linked with moves away. Names like Kris Ajer, Odsonne Edouard and Kyogo are names that come to mind immediately in that regard.
Now, another former Celtic player has completed a move. At 34 years of age, he will continue his run in Scottish football.
Ross County have announced the signing of Gary Mackay-Steven. He joins the Championship side on a one-year deal.
Mackay-Steven was part of the Ross County youth ranks at one point of time. After spending his senior career playing for the likes of Celtic, Aberdeen and New York City FC, he now makes a return to his boyhood club.
Scottish club announce signing of former Celtic player on a one-year deal
Mackay-Steven spent a couple of years at Celtic. He joined from Dundee United in early 2015 and left for Aberdeen in 2017. Over that period of time, he made 62 appearances for the club in total and scored 10 goals. He was also a part of four trophy wins. So, he certainly played his part at Parkhead, even though he might not be a high-profile name or someone who is always brought up when discussing the Hoops' recent history.
We can only wish him the best of luck in his next step. Hopefully, he will have a good run at Ross County. At 34, these are the twilight years of his career.
As for Celtic, they have been busy in the summer transfer window lately. It looks like they are closing in on four signings at once. They are Isaac English, Callum Osmand, Benjamin Nygren and Hayato Inamura.
