Generally, Celtic fans do not expect moves to be announced in mid-April. But circumstances dictate actions in football, especially for clubs looking to avoid relegation. And it looks like a window of opportunity has opened up for one of the Hoops' youngsters to play at the senior level, having moved on an emergency loan deal.
Inverness Caledonian Thistle have announced on their official website that they are pleased to announce the signing of goalkeeper Marcus Gill on an emergency loan from Celtic. Musa Dibaga will be unavailable for their upcoming game against Stenhousemuir FC this weekend, having suffered a hamstring injury.
Incidentally, this is not the first time this season that Inverness CT have signed a Celtic goalkeeper on an emergency loan. Last time, around the same time in March, it was Aiden Rice, who joined them and ended up playing against Alloa.
It is very possible that Gill could end up featuring this weekend. The other option for the Scottish League One club is Szymon Rebilas.
Scottish club announce signing of Celtic player out of nowhere
Gill has made 11 appearances for Celtic's youth and developmental teams so far this season. Over those games, he has conceded 12 goals while keeping a couple of clean sheets along the way.
It remains to be seen how he does at Inverness CT, even though it is expected to be a very brief spell. It should be a good learning experience for Gill and will hopefully help him in the long run.
Of course, Celtic have a goalkeeping injury situation of their own at the moment. Kasper Schmeichel got injured while representing Denmark. In his absence, it is Viljami Sinisalo who has had to come into the team, despite not having a ton of experience. He does deserve credit for the job that he has done since taking the gloves, though.
