It looks like Hearts are feeling the pressure of being atop the league. The win over Celtic had sent them eight points clear at the top as they most had hailed them as genuine contenders. They have failed to win three out of the previous four games since that result. And right now, that gap has been cut down to four points, with the Hoops having a game in hand as well.
We had always wondered whether Hearts would be able to keep their early-season form up. It is a marathon, not a race after all. Last season, Aberdeen had made a brilliant start as well but fell apart atter a while.
So, it was ironic that it was at the hands of Aberdeen that Hearts lost their first game of the league season. And it would be safe to say that Celtic now have a real chance to close in.
Of course, Celtic have had their own issues as well. The performance against St Mirren was terrible and on another day, they would have lost comfortably. But instead, a late goal from Callum McGregor secured them all three points, which look even better now.
'Rodgers wasn’t at it' - Celtic fans react as Hearts lose
With how things have turned out since Brendan Rodgers left, many are now questioning the Northern Irishman. As one Celtic fan wrote: "Makes it all the more frustrating that we lost at Tynecastle. Anyone else still unwilling to believe Rodgers wasn’t at it."
Another reminded the fans about how Aberdeen had started to fade away at around the same time last season: "Exact same time of year Aberdeen fell apart last year."
Of course, Celtic cannot look at what is happening elsewhere. The Hoops have enough problems of their own right now, both on and off the pitch. They need to find the solutions for those. If they are able to do that, they can look outside. For now, they are still second, and against a team that works at a fraction of their budget. That is the reality of it.
