It has emerged in recent days that Alexander Isak has told Newcastle United that he wants to explore his options this summer. There have also been claims that he is dreaming of a move to Liverpool. That is all great and one would imagine that it would have any effect on Celtic. But transfer market is like a game of dominoes and everything is connected.
Of course, if Isak did end up leaving, then Newcastle United would look to strengthen their crop of forwards. One of the players they seem to have their eyes on is Yoane Wissa. In fact, according to Sky Sports on Thursday, Brentford have rejected a £25m offer from the Magpies for Wissa but a new bid is expected.
On the other hand, this could be terrible news for Celtic. As reported by TEAMtalk recently, Brentford have identified Daizen Maeda as a prime candidate to replace Wissa, who is attracting significant interest from Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Well, that just shows you why we called it a game of dominoes. Incidentally, Brentford have been linked with Maeda all summer.
'Replacement' - Alexander Isak exit could be bad news for Celtic
Celtic's current squad is paper-thin. We saw that against Ajax. There is no way they should even consider parting ways with Maeda this summer. But then again, if Brentford came in with a huge offer, do you honestly think the board would not consider it?
Honestly, Celtic should not consider parting ways with Maeda right now. It feels like he is the only player in the squad with some kind of X-factor.
Instead of parting with key players, the focus has to be on bringing in some capable of making a major impact at Parkhead. Some proven names or ones making waves in their current leagues. Yet, it feels like the club are focused on finding the next great bargain deal instead. Of course, when it comes off, it is genius. But then, just think of the numerous occasions in which it has not.
