Celtic and Brendan Rodgers have a lot of questions to answer after another loss at home in Europe and a terrible performance to go with it. That being said, so does UEFA. That is due to the Kelechi Iheanacho goal that was disallowed in the second for being a handball, even though it did not look like the case on the replays.
Even the commentators were left stunned by the decision. And it is not hard to guess what the reaction from the Celtic supporters was.
Admittedly, even with that goal, Celtic's performance was nowhere near good enough. That being said, it could have turned into a very different game, if they had equalised at that point and had momentum on their side.
Many have even questioned why the referee did not go to the pitchside monitor to have a look at the incident. But as reported by The Herald, the decision was a factual overturn according to the rules, meaning the official did not have to go to have a check with clear and obvious evidence of the handball needed.
Reason ref did not go to pitchside monitor for Celtic's disallowed goal
Let's see if UEFA end up giving an explanation or a different angle that makes the situation clear, and proves that it was a handball. But right now, with the evidence that is available to us, it does feel like a terrible decision on the part of the VAR team.
It is what it is though. Celtic have a lot more to be worried about coming out of that game than just the disallowed goal.
They have been stagnant going forward since the start of the season, and there does not seem to be much chemistry in this team. It is up to Brendan Rodgers to find the solutions as soon as possible.
