It looks like the next manager situation is starting to pick up some pace at Celtic Park. Earlier, there had been suggestions that Martin O'Neill could be handed the job until the end of the season, and that is still a possibility. That being said, it does feel like the idea does not hold as much weight following the recent defeat at the hands of FC Midtjylland.
It is very clear that O'Neill is not the long-term solution at 73 years of age. So, perhaps, the club should give their next permanent manager a chance to rebuild the squad in the upcoming January transfer window.
Quite a few names have been linked with the Parkhead job over the past couple of weeks, since Brendan Rodgers handed in his resignation. Interestingly, it feels like a frontrunner might be starting to emerge.
As reported by TEAMtalk, Celtic are readying a formal move for Kjetil Knutsen. They have learned that the 56-year-old Bodo/Glimt manager is hungry for a bigger stage.
'Readying a formal move' - Celtic make next manager decision
Knutsen has been at Bodo/Glimt since 2018 and has done a phenomenal job. He has won four league titles already and could end up with a fifth one very soon. On the other hand, he has guided them to some historic continental performances as well. That includes becoming the first Norwegian side to reach a semi-final of a major European tournament as well as their debut campaign in the Champions League this season.
Knutsen has exceeded all expectations. There is absolutely no doubt about that. That being said, it does feel like there is a ceiling to what he can achieve at Bodo/Glimt.
Celtic, on the other hand, could provide a much bigger platform. At the end of the day, it is the difference between a club with a home ground that has a 8,500 capacity and one with 60,000 fans in attendance.
