Moroccan football has been on an upward trajectory in recent years. They surprised the world by reaching the World Cup semi-final in 2022. And they did the same recently, by winning the U20 World Cup, something that not many would have seen coming. Celtic seem to have taken notice of this success and want to sign the captain who led them to glory.
It is very clear that Celtic need to strengthen their squad this January. Fans will be hoping that they bring in some proven quality and experience. Stefan Ortega of Manchester City would fit that description. But on the other hand, they are also being linked with the most recent U20 World Cup-winning captain.
According to reports in his homeland (via Daily Record), Celtic have made an enquiry about signing Houssam Essadak. The Scottish giants have asked his club UTS Rabat how much they want for his transfer. The Hoops are leading the way to land the Moroccan U20 World Cup winner.
Essadak plays in the middle of the park, whether it is as a defensive midfielder or slightly up the pitch. Does interest in him point towards someone leaving? Reo Hatate is someone who has been linked with a move away. Arne Engels was as well but he seems to have regained his place in the team following the arrival of Martin O'Neill.
Celtic favourites to sign Moroccan midfielder in January
The Moroccan midfielder was believed to be on the verge of joining Las Palmas not too long ago. But that did not happen.
Right now, it appears that Celtic are leading the way to sign him. It remains to be seen if they are successful in doing that.
He is a talent for sure, as we saw at the U20 World Cup. So, he could be a good signing for the Hoops for sure.
