It is safe to say that Celtic are the best team in Scotland right now and they hold a considerable lead over the Rangers in the league right now. 14 points to be precise, with Philippe Clement's side having a game in hand. Thus, the Ibrox club have a lot of catching up to do and it looks like they have set their sights on a Leeds United player.

Even more interestingly, it is someone who Celtic had tried to sign earlier this year. But unfortunately a move did not materialise back then.

Admittedly, things worked out quite well for Celtic despite that. They ended up signing Adam Idah on loan from Norwich City instead and he helped power them to a league and Scottish Cup double in the second half of the season and was eventually signed on a permanent basis in the summer.

As reported by Football Insider, Rangers are among a number of clubs interested in signing Leeds forward Joe Gelhardt in January. Championship sides also want him.

As reported by Yorkshire Evening Post, Gelhardt was the subject of interest from Celtic last January. Talks took place and Leeds United initially seemed keen to entertain the idea but having hit the limit for loans to clubs abroad the English team would have been unable to sanction a move.

Considering the Leeds United forward's goalscoring record, one has to doubt whether he would be the one to get the Rangers back into the title race. But then, a lot of people said the same thing about Idah.

So, Celtic should not take anything for granted. We are just about to enter December and there is a long way to go in this title race. But if they do their best moving forward, they will win.
