It is safe to say that Celtic have been the top team in Scottish football for a long time now. They now appear to be on the verge of winning their fourth-straight league title and are coming off a very successful Champions League campaign while there is uncertainty around the managerial situation at Ibrox after they sacked Philippe Clement and have brought in Barry Ferguson as interim boss until the end of the season.

It does not get more contrasting than that. And yet, the Rangers fans will surely be hoping that the next appointment will be the one that turns the ship around for them.

Yes, one could appointment can change a club's fortunes. Just look at what happened with Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool a decade ago. But a lot of other things need to fall into place as well.

Even if the Rangers end up with the right manager, are they in a position where they will be able to give him the right tools to succeed? That does not feel like the case. After all, their most successful head coach in recent times, Steven Gerrard, won just one trophy in over three years at Ibrox.

'Rangers want to be like Celtic' - BBC journalist makes big claim

Are the Rangers starting to look towards Celtic as an inspiration these days? As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Tom English told Football Daily:

"Well, look, the bottom line, and I’m definitely not going to any pubs around Ibrox when I say this, the truth of this and senior figures at Rangers will tell you this quietly, Rangers want to be like Celtic.

“They want to have the same business model, the same player trading model, the same age profile, the same ambition as Celtic.

“That’s exactly what they’re striving for. Never in a month of Sundays will they say that publicly, but that’s what they want to be.

“They want to be the team from the other side of the city."

While a lot of Rangers fans might not be happy with that statement, it makes sense. Just look at the difference between the two clubs in recent times. It is night and day.

Celtic have been consistent winners, one year after another. On the other hand, silverware has been sporadic for the Rangers at best even though there has not been a world of difference when it comes to the money being spent by the two teams.
