This is an interesting juncture of the season for Celtic. The league title race might still not be over but for all intents and purposes, it feels like it is. The Hoops have a significant lead with 11 games to go. On the other hand, the Rangers have sacked Philippe Clement and brought in Barry Ferguson as his replacement until the end of the campaign. It is very clear that they have given up on their Premiership hopes.
When it comes to the Scottish Cup, Celtic are heavy favourites, especially after Queen's Park eliminated the Rangers from the competition. That being said, anything can happen in one-off knockout games. A performance like the one at Easter Road and the Hoops will be out. So, they need to be careful.
Some eyes are already on the summer transfer window as well. Celtic disappointed with their lack of activity in the winter and will hopefully make up for that.
Jeffrey Schlupp was signed on loan from Crystal Palace in the winter. His contract with the Eagles is believed to be running out in the summer though and it has been suggested that the 32-year-old could be a good signing for Celtic on a free transfer.
Celtic tipped to sign 32-year-old Premier League player for free
As reported by Football Insider, former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson said:
"Schlupp is at 32 years old on a free transfer, and he can play higher up the pitch and he can play as a midfielder as well.
“There’s more strings to his bow than just that left-back position, he plays well higher up the pitch.
“You look at the experience that he’s had, Leicester, Brentford, Crystal Palace currently on loan, his contracts up wages wise.
“I don’t expect he’s going to break the bank, he’ll come in as a decent earner.
“But again, the opportunity for him to play Champions League football might just sway it in Celtic’s favour.
“With Tierney coming in as well, yeah, why not bring Schlupp in?
“He’d be a great addition on recent performances."
Schlupp's signing was not met with a lot of enthusiasm from the fans. It is safe to say that he has won a lot of people over with his performances since arriving though.
Schlupp was excellent against Bayern Munich away at the Allianz Arena, keeping both Michael Olise and Leroy Sane quiet. So, if available as a free agent, signing him on a short-term contract would definitely be worth considering. It is the type of move that has worked out for Celtic in recent times. Aaron Mooy, Joe Hart and Kasper Schmeichel are great examples.
