The US takeover of the Rangers was announced recently. Now, it remains to be seen who the club will bring in as their new manager. That is a decision that Celtic will have their eyes on as well, as they wait to see who Brendan Rodgers will go up against next, having seen plenty enter and exit the Ibrox exit door over his two stints at Parkhead.
Of course, it is not all down to the Rangers either. They have already been handed their fair share of setbacks in their search to bring in a new manager.
It is believed that Steven Gerrard, who was viewed as the frontrunner to get that job for months, has turned down the opportunity to make a return to Ibrox. And if reports in France are to be believed then he is not the only one with Will Still doing the same.
Right now, Davide Ancelotti and Russell Martin are believed to be the two leading candidates to get the Ibrox job. And the club seem to be confident that they are close to ending that search.
Rangers make new manager announcement that will interest Celtic
As reported by the club's official website, Kevin Thelwell, their new sporting director, said:
"While there has been significant work going on in the background prior to my arrival, that naturally accelerates from today, and top of the priority list will be the appointment of a new Head Coach for our men’s first-team.
“That search has been progressing well, and the club and I look forward to bringing that to a conclusion in the coming days."
Let's see how things play out over the coming days and who ends up being handed that role. Whoever it is, will have their work cut out for them.
Celtic have won the last four league titles and getting past them won't be simple, no matter how much the Rangers end up spending in the summer transfer window. Winning is a habit and they simply do not have it at Ibrox at this point in time.
It will take some time to build that culture at Ibrox. But will the next manager be given the time that he needs? Or will he be shown the exit door if things start going down, just like the last three before him? Those are the questions that their fans need to be asking ahead of their new appointment.
