It would be safe to say that Celtic fans have a lot to worry about at the moment, having seen the Hoops decide not to strengthen their squad ahead of their Champions League qualifier. A lot is riding on the result of that tie and the supporters are not exactly confident in this current team, which has looked shaky in their first two league games and far weaker when compared to a year ago.
That being said, Celtic were able to get the job done in both those league games, picking up a maximum of six points. The same cannot be said about Russell Martin's new-look Rangers team, who drew both. As a result, there is already a four-point gap between the Glasgow sides.
Of course, that is significant when it comes to a Scottish Premiership title race. And it appears that it might already be causing the Rangers to change plans.
As confirmed on the Rangers' official website, the club's request to potentially postpone their Scottish Premiership match with St Mirren later this month has been withdrawn. The game will now take place at 12noon on Sunday, August 24 at the SMiSA Stadium.
Rangers make official announcement as Celtic fear clear
Initially, the Rangers had wanted to postpone that game against St Mirren, if they made it to the next round of the Champions League qualifiers. Of course, that is very likely to happen as they hold a 3-0 lead from the first leg.
One has to imagine that Celtic going four points ahead after just two games surely had a role to play in the Rangers making a U-turn. If the St Mirren game had been postponed, it would have allowed the Hoops to take a seven-point lead.
Let's see how things turn out over the coming weeks. It is pretty clear though that there are fears at Ibrox about Celtic getting too far ahead already.
