Well, that's one for the books. We all know Celtic seem to be having a tough transfer window so far. While on the other side of Glasgow, Rangers have had to rush signings in to bolster their squad. But we still wouldn't expect a former Ibrox star to be urging a prospective signing to choose the Hoops over other clubs.
Celtic have made several signings so far, but it seems as though the club are holding back on the bigger names and transfer fees so far. Now, an exciting prospect that's been linked with the club already has been discussed again. Clement Bischoff, currently with Brondby, is the player in question.
Earlier in the year, he was believed to be on the verge of joining Brighton & Hove Albion in an €8 million deal, but it fell apart at the last minute. Now, it’s reportedly Sunderland trying to sign him.
Bischoff is an exciting winger who loves to run with the ball and has been tipped as a potential Celtic signing. He sounds like excellent competition for Jota, when the Portuguese ace is fit, and a useful addition in the meantime. The more urgent gap is on the right flank after Nicolas Kuhn’s departure. But strengthening all around remains vital.
Former Rangers player urges Bischoff to sign for Celtic
Surprisingly, former Rangers player Richard Foster has urged Bischoff to make the move to Parkhead rather than Wearside. He was speaking on Go Radio, as reported by 67HailHail, and said:
"For me, if I am looking at this, and this shows my ignorance, but it’s also because I don’t really care about English football.
“But I don’t even know what league Sunderland are in. Are they in the Championship? Are they back? Right okay. But even that, for me, you are going to Celtic, with the opportunity to go and play in the Champions League.
“Or, you are going to Sunderland, where, let’s be honest, they are likely going to be cannon fodder for the rest of the league.
“In my mind, there isn’t even a question there. Even if Sunderland are offering twice the money, I think the winger should go to Celtic, if that’s his choice."
We are not sure that will go down well with the Rangers fans, but they have plenty of other things to worry about just now. For Celtic, if they are getting ready to break out the cheque book again, then Bischoff could be a great signing. Although the Brighton bid was higher, it seems around £6 million might seal a deal this summer. That’s well within the Hoops' budget.
Brondby are preparing for the Europa Conference League this season, so they may be keen to retain the winger for that. But if Celtic offered Champions League football instead, that may be a big enough attraction to draw Bischoff’s interest away from his current club and Sunderland.
At the moment, the rumours of potential signings for Celtic have gone quiet. It may be that either the club or the players it is interested in are waiting to see how the Champions League play-off goes. That could well mean Bischoff is in that category. So, let's just wait and watch how things play out over the coming weeks.
