It looks as though the financial reality of Rangers is finally reaching their former captain Barry Ferguson. As both his past club and Celtic appear keen on signing the same player, he admits there is a doubt over Ibrox being the youngster's new home. It’s taken a while to get there though, and even now he’s a bit unsure.

We’re back to the Lennon Miller situation. At some point, the player will move away from Motherwell. He’s still only 18 years old but is a regular in the Steelmen’s side and has even captained them on a few occasions this season.

Steve Clarke also appears to have his eye on Miller for the full Scotland squad. Although he is currently giving the player international experience through the U19s.

After some good displays against Celtic and others, of course, there has been talk of Miller moving clubs. Possibly as early as this winter transfer window. Many pundits are tipping Parkhead as the likely destination, although as is a habit to mention, the Rangers are also believed to be interested.

That's where Ferguson comes in. As reported by the Daily Record, the Rangers legend told Go Radio:

"He has been a standout, let’s be honest. He has gained so much experience in the short period of time in his professional career. It’s going to be a big decision. What I know is that he is a level-headed guy and he has a family behind him. They will make the right decision for him. Would I love to see him at Rangers? 100 per cent I would. Can Rangers afford him? I don’t know."

There’s that note of caution at the end creeping into Ferguson’s thinking. When he says he doesn't know if the Rangers can afford the signing, you know the financial reality at Ibrox is sinking in. Also, when pressed on the prospect of Miller ending up at Celtic, he admitted:

"I wouldn’t be too happy, of course. You want to see good young players go to your team – I would be absolutely shocked if both Celtic and Rangers aren’t interested. There will be teams down south. Teams in Italy – he could easily play for Celtic or Rangers."

Miller remains highly rated, he’s bound to be on the radar of many clubs. Brendan Rodgers has shown he wants quality players for his squad and the youngster could fit the bill. And when it comes to the bill for the transfer fee, that's not an issue at all for Celtic.
