One former Rangers star has been speaking about Celtic's latest signing. The Hoops kick-started their summer transfer window with the £11million signing of striker Kasper Hogh in a deal that will likely become a club-record deal due to add-ons.
The Bhoys have had a slow summer transfer window, only signing Camilo Duran up until their big Hogh signing, which is a real statement from the club. Hogh has readily found the net in the Norwegian top flight and the Champions League, and there is plenty of confidence that he can be a star at Parkhead.
Celtic told they have landed a top striker
Speaking to SunSport, Rangers hero turned pundit Kris Boyd has issued his verdict on Celtic's newest capture. He said: "You’ve got to say, it’s someone with a Champions League pedigree, it’s someone who scores goals on a regular basis and for me looking at it right now, it could be a very, very good addition for Celtic.
“They had to make a statement signing, more so to get probably a lot of the fans off their backs because we all know at this time of the year as well, Roger, it takes time to get deals done but Celtic seem to do it every single year and that’s why there’s probably some more, there’s more groans coming from the Celtic fans.
“But I think Martin O’Neill would have had, he would have been told at the start when he took the job that there would be signings coming in and you’re now starting to see them and I think for me, it’s a top signing for Celtic.”
Hogh seems like a Boyd kind of striker, over 6 foot tall but able to show some physicality and strength, while also having the ability to be in the right place at the right time in the box.
What we do know is that Martin O'Neill will be delighted to have rounded off his striker department, with Hogh and Duran, who have 10 Champions League career goals between them, likely to compete for the main starting role, while youngster Callum Osmand will provide cover.
The 20-year-old scored a couple of key goals last season, and so he will likely see some game time, although the competition has been increased this summer.
The Bhoys also have Johnny Kenny on their books, but all indications suggest he will leave for the EFL this summer after his loan spell with Bolton Wanderers last season.
