The upcoming Glasgow Derby at Ibrox promises to be an intriguing one. Celtic have struggled against the Rangers in recent times, conceding nine goals in their previous three games. That being said, Russell Martin's side are yet to win a league game this season, drawing thrice. And their most recent result was a 6-0 defeat at the hands of Club Brugge.
Of course, Celtic faced their own stumble in Europe in midweek. They were eliminated from the Champions League qualification phase as well, failing to score in 210-plus minutes of football against Kairat before missing three of their five spot kicks.
These are two teams that need to bounce back and as soon as possible. But their summer transfer windows have been very contrasting.
To be honest, the Rangers have shown a ton of ambition, shelling out plenty on transfer fees and bringing in players on loan from Premier League sides. Of course, it does not seem to be working out on the pitch, but at least an effort has been made by the board. The same cannot be said about Celtic, who have spent about £3 million this summer while bringing in north of £25 million from exits and sell-on clauses.
Rangers agree £4.2m deal to sign Celtic-linked player
Despite the failure to make the Champions League, the Ibrox club are continuing to make additions. And they are set to sign a player who Celtic had been linked with, and could definitely do with under their current circumstances.
As reported by Anthony Joseph, Rangers have agreed a deal worth £4.2m for Girona striker Bojan Miovski. They will pay an initial fee of £2.6m, with £1.6m in add-ons. The player has agreed personal terms and will undergo a medical tomorrow.
Of course, it is unclear how much substance there was when it comes to reports of Celtic being interested in Miovski this summer. On paper, signing someone like him would have made sense.
Celtic are lacking options up top. Kyogo was never replaced. Daizen Maeda has lost his touch in front of goal. And there are talks that Adam Idah, who has struggled badly, could leave before the window closes. So why not sign someone like Miovski, who scored 44 times in 98 appearances for Aberdeen? Then again, very little about the Hoops' strategy has made sense.
