It is pretty clear that Celtic will need to sign a winger, or two, this summer. Nicolas Kuhn has already completed a move to Como FC. On the other hand, Jota is set to remain on the sidelines for the foreseeable future, potentially for the rest of the year. That leaves James Forrest, Luis, Palma, Benjamin Nygren, Marco Tilio, Yang Hyun-jun and Daizen Maeda as the club's options on the flanks. And that is if the Japanese international is being viewed as an option there.
Expect a few of those names to no longer be at the club by the time the summer transfer window closes. Clearly, additions are needed in that area of the pitch.
Celtic have been linked with a few wingers lately. A move for Michel-Ange Balikwisha might be on the cards. On the other hand, it looks like the Hoops are now likely to miss out on Herba Guirassy of Nantes.
As reported by L'Equipe (via Daily Record), Belgian side Club Brugge are preparing a €5 million (£4.3 million) bid to sign Guirassy. The 18-year-old winger is keen on the move.
'Preparing a €5million bid' - Major Celtic transfer update drops
Still 18 years of age, Guirassy has already made 21 appearances for Nantes at the senior level, including 19 in Ligue 1. Very clearly, he is highly regarded by the French club.
So, if Celtic are able to sign him, it would have to be seen as a major coup even though it would be another project signing in a long list of many. For now, it looks like Club Brugge have moved ahead of the rest in the race to sign Guirassy.
On the other hand, there have been suggestions that talks to sign Balikwisha from Royal Antwerp are moving in the right direction. Celtic are also expected to complete a deal for Kawasaki Frontale striker Shin Yamada in the coming days, when he returns from Japan national team duty.
