The perfect storm could be about to play out for Celtic as they contemplate selling one of their most important players this summer. The Bhoys have had a slow transfer window so far, but things are now starting to pick up, with the first new face now in the building.
Camilo Duran has been snapped up on a deal worth up to ÂŁ5.5million from Qarabag, and he will fill one of the vacant striker spots. We now know Kelechi Iheanacho is likely to fill the other vacant position, with Martin O'Neill confirming he is in talks to bring back the experienced frontman.
While we are likely to see new signings aplenty at Paradise this summer, there will also be exits, and some pretty significant exits, too.
Daizen Maeda set to leave Celtic this summer
At this point, it's pretty clear Daizen Maeda will be leaving Celtic. The Japan international has been brilliant for the Hoops, offering superb creativity on a consistent basis during his time at the club.
But now in the final year of his deal, Maeda knows this is the time to move on, and that's not only because it is best for him, but it is also best for the club.
Maeda is not going to sign a new deal, given he wants to play in a top league, and the last thing both parties want is for him to leave for free next summer. The Bhoys can make at least ÂŁ15million on Maeda this summer, if not ÂŁ20million.
The best thing for Celtic at this stage is for a bidding war to play out, and they might just get their wish.
Ingredients in place for Maeda bidding war
According to Football Insider, Everton, who have been heavily linked with Maeda, are not the only Premier League side expressing an interest. They claim Brentford and Fulham are also showing interest in the Celtic forward.
At this point, it is said to be an 'open race' for Maeda, and there could yet be more clubs who express an interest. Celtic, who will be resigned to losing Maeda this summer, will be hopeful of attracting as much interest as possible this summer to ensure they can demand a fee closer to ÂŁ20million, which certainly isn't out of the question.
Maeda also put together an impressive World Cup, playing a central role in an impressive effort for Japan, and that is only going to help a selling club.
