Celtic are now said to have reached an agreement to secure their first new signing of the summer.

It has been a slow start to the summer for the Bhoys, who are yet to bring in a new face, even if Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was kept around for an extra year thanks to a new deal.

Martin O'Neill wants new signings aplenty this summer, well aware of the gaps he has in his squad, while we are also likely to see some significant exits.

There are few more pressing issues than the striker crisis Celtic currently have in their squad. Callum Osmand is the only out-and-out striker at the club following Kelechi Iheanacho's departure at the end of his contract.

But one of those roles now looks as though it will be filled.

Celtic agree Duran transfer

According to Sky Sports' Anthony Joseph, Celtic have agreed a deal to sign Qarabag striker Camilo Duran on a deal that could be worth as much as £5million.

The Bhoys have agreed to pay £3million upfront, while there is a further £2million in add-ons agreed as part of the deal. Qarabag will bag a huge profit on the striker, having paid £200,000 for him, while it is a club-record sale for them.

Duran scored five goals in the Champions League alone last season, so one can understand why the Azerbaijani side wanted to cash in.

The report adds that Duran will arrive in the UK this week ahead of undergoing his medical with Celtic. He could then join up with O'Neill and his men in Ireland, but whether he does or not, he will almost certainly be on the plane to Portugal with his new teammates.

The paperwork and contract is also expected to be completed upon Duran's first visit to his new surroundings.

The Colombian is still only 24 years of age, so he has plenty of development still to come, and Celtic will hope his fast and physical style will take nicely to Scottish football.

Celtic are going to have to sign at least one more striker, if not two, but they will be pleased to tick off the first, especially on a pretty affordable deal. The Bhoys should welcome some big money into the club in the way of sales this summer, so a £3million initial payment will be very comfortably made.

Fans will be delighted after a painfully slow start to the club's summer recruitment.
