Sky Sports man drops late night news as Celtic make formal bid
Celtic are set to be very busy in the final week of the summer transfer window. The fans were not satisfied with the club already, as they have made just four additions to the squad so far with one of them having a slim chance of getting regular football anytime soon. And since then, they have seen Matt O'Riley leave to join Brighton & Hove Albion for what is believed to be a Scottish record deal.
Of course, Celtic now have the unenviable task of finding a way to replace O'Riley with just days left in the transfer window. Let's look at this in terms of pure numbers. They need to find a midfielder who can provide close to 40 goal contributions and is equally adept at scoring and assisting.
There are not too many of those players around. Especially considering the transfer budget Celtic work under.
There are a few players Celtic have been heavily linked with over the last few days though. And formal steps are now being taken to get the ball rolling on potential transfers before the window slams shut.
Sky Sports man drops late night news as Celtic make formal bid
As tweeted by Anthony Joseph, Celtic have made a formal bid for LAFC's Mateusz Bogusz. The clubs have resumed talks following the MLS side’s 3-1 Leagues Cup final defeat to Columbus Crew. Negotiations are ongoing.
It remains to be seen whether Celtic can get a deal done for Bogusz. He has been in the form of his life in the MLS this season although he is playing a much more forward role than O'Riley.
Even in the final, Bogusz assisted Olivier Giroud's goal and had one for himself ruled out. Of course, it is very possible that this could be a purple patch of form. Also, who knows how his game would translate to Scotland?
