Robert Lewandowski was on the scoresheet for the Poland national team as they got themselves a dramatic 3-2 win over Scotland at Hampden Park. The visitors were 2-0 up only for Steve Clarke's side to mount a comeback and make it 2-2. Ultimately, a 97th-minute spot kick ended up deciding the result. In the aftermath, the FC Barcelona striker has sent a message to a Celtic player.

Celtic needed to sign a left-back to compete with Greg Taylor this summer. They went for the short-term solution, bringing in Alex Valle on loan from FC Barcelona.

Valle has not made a single competitive appearance for FC Barcelona so far. But he was involved in Hansi Flick's plans during pre-season and gave a good account of himself.

It remains to be seen if he can get into the Celtic starting XI this season. That won't be an easy task, with Taylor looking in form, perhaps rejuvenated by the arrival of some competition after a couple of years as a nailed-on starter.

Lewandowski saw up close what kind of players Valle could face in Scotland. And as reported by the Glasgow Times, when asked how he thought the 20-year-old would fare this term, he said:

"You know, like every player, it depends how many minutes he's going to play.

"For us at Barcelona, we also know that if you want to play and you want to prove your performance, you have to be always ready. I know sometimes to play on the top level is not so easy.

"On Thursday night I saw some players from Scotland that know how to play football. We knew it would not be an easy game for us. That's why we appreciate these three points.

"But always we are trying to do our best. And if you are talking about the players from Scotland, you have also experienced players on the pitch. And also some young players who show that they want to be in the team."

Let's see how things play out for Valle at Celtic Park. Of course, everything will depend on how much playing time he gets.

It is going to be a long season for Celtic, with the extended Champions League and hopefully a deeper run in the Scottish League Cup. So, expect Valle to get some playing time when Taylor needs to be rested. What he does with those minutes on the pitch will determine what kind of a role he will have in the team. If he does well, perhaps his stint in Glasgow could turn permanent next summer.
