Troy Deeney tells hard Celtic truth to Graeme Souness
It has been almost a week since Celtic completely outplayed the Rangers at Parkhead in the first Glasgow Derby of the season, registering a 3-0 win thanks to goals from Callum McGregor, Kyogo and Daizen Maeda. The result means that the gap between the two teams is already five points, as the Hoops seek a fourth straight league title.
To be honest, Celtic should have gotten a few more on the day. Their opener was ruled out in what was a questionable offside decision at best. Also, Kyogo could have done better when he tried to chip the ball over Jack Butland and managed to find the side netting.
Some Rangers fans seem to be of the belief though that it was a close match. They'll point out at stats like shots on target and possession.
The eye test tells a different story though. And perhaps a neutral's view is the best one to take in this matter. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Troy Deeney said while speaking with Graeme Souness and Simon Jordan on the YouTube show Three Up Front:
"When you watch the Liverpool game, it’s Man United, you can watch that emotionless and go, Liverpool were miles better than that team. My eye test said Celtic were a better team. There did look a big, insurmountable gap."
Troy Deeney tells hard Celtic truth to Graeme Souness
There is a gap between Celtic and the Rangers at this point in time. That is pretty undeniable. And the records tell the same story.
The Rangers fans' 'were the better side' story does not hold up when you consider the fact that Celtic have just lost one of the previous twelve Glasgow Derbies. Even that defeat came in a match where nothing was riding on the result as the Hoops had already secured the league title and also had key players missing.
Not only is there a gap between the two teams right now but it also feels like that gap is starting to increase. The Rangers' squad might actually be weaker this season than the previous one.
