We are just weeks into the season and it is way too early to come to any conclusions about where the teams stand. Celtic have looked the best in Scotland once again but they cannot afford to get complacent for a second. We saw them get eliminated from the second round of the Scottish League Cup in the previous campaign. The aim has to be a treble this time around.

As for the Rangers, it does feel like some of their fans have given up already. The club currently have a temporary home at Hampden Park and that is ironic, cause everything about their current setup feels 'temporary'.

How long will Philippe Clement be their manager? How many of their players will remain at the club beyond this summer? Will there be changes behind the scenes if this season proves to be another unsuccessful one?

Of course, Celtic cannot spend a second looking at what's going on on the other side of town. They must be fully focused on themselves. But football fans are always going to have an eye on this sort of thing.

Rangers situation called worse than 2012 as Celtic extend gap

In his column on the Daily Record, Hugh Keevins wrote about the Rangers' current situation:

"No manager remains in place in defiance of the fans wishes. And no club like Rangers flourishes at the same time as ignoring thousands of unoccupied seats at a game left empty by supporters as evidence of their alienation. Rangers’ situation is now, to my way of thinking, worse than it was when the club went into administration, then liquidation, in 2012."

It does feel like there is an air of apathy around the Rangers at the moment. Their fans have seen the team struggle to compete with Celtic for so many years except for a rare league-winning campaign in 2020/21, when supporters were not even in attendance.

Celtic have all the momentum in the world right when compared to the Rangers. Clement's side have failed to make it to the Champions League as well, which should further extend the divide between the two Glasgow giants. If things carry on like this, only one will be considered a 'giant' in the future.
