Nicolas Kuhn blown away by what Celtic fans did
Celtic enjoyed the best possible start to their Champions League campaign with a 5-1 win over Slovan Bratislava. Even though the Hoops had entered the game as the clear favourites in the eyes of most people, not many would predicted this one-sided of a contest. Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda, Liam Scales, Adam Idah and Arne Engels were the five goalscorers for the Scottish champions against the Slovakian side.
Nicolas Kuhn did not manage to get on the scoresheet on the night. But he was one of Celtic's best performers without a doubt.
He was a constant headache for the Slovan Bratislava defenders and created chances for his teammates throughout the night. And it just goes on to show the improvement he has made this season, after a slow start to life at Parkhead following his winter arrival.
It was also Kuhn's Champions League debut. A long-awaited occasion for a player who has been at Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and Ajax in the past, but was not able to make it at any of those clubs. He is finally starting to realise all that potential though.
Nicolas Kuhn blown away by what Celtic fans did
Kuhn's Champions League debut came at the best possible place, a Parkhead crowd on top of its game. It is easy to understand why the German winger was blown away by the occasion.
As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Kuhn said in a media conference:
"Unbelievable. I think it was the craziest thing I have ever experienced. It was just amazing.
“For me, it was just amazing. It’s been a long journey and finally arriving in the Champions League in such a stadium was unreal. It was more than what I expected. After the anthem, with it sold out, it was amazing.
“Everyone said it would be a special night, I was really looking forward to it. Now I can say I played in a European game here. I’m really happy.
“The goal was always to play in the Champions League and one day, hopefully, the national team. I didn’t care what other people said, it’s what I believed I could achieve."
Kuhn must be proud of what he has been able to achieve. Many people must have written him off over the years but he did not give up and has now made it to the Champions League level.
Also, a lot more could be set to come for the German winger. He seems to be getting better with experience and Celtic might be the best place for him to develop further.
