The 24/25 season has started like so many others before it, with the Rangers trying to catch up with Celtic. After the first five games of the league campaign, the Hoops already sit five points ahead of their Glasgow rivals and won the first derby by a comfortable 3-0 scoreline as well. So, Philippe Clement has quite a task on his hands to make this title race a competitive one.

Celtic just look miles ahead of the Rangers at the moment. They have won the last three league titles and there is a clear gap between the two teams.

It is hard to see how the Rangers can hope to bridge that gap. Especially when Celtic are posting record financial results almost every year. The Hoops recently announced their highest-ever revenue.

On the other hand, the Rangers seem to be in a state of constant transition both on and off the pitch. Their new interim chairman is John Gilligan. And it looks like he is hoping to catch up with Celtic.

As reported by the Daily Record, Gilligan said:

"History tells you that sometimes we are ahead, sometimes Celtic are ahead. At the moment we are chasing. There is no argument there, I am not stupid enough to say otherwise. But we will keep chasing."

Well, here are just a few facts to consider. Celtic have won twelve Premiership titles since the time of Neil Lennon's first stint as manager. On the other hand, the Rangers have managed just one.

Even that came in what was a historically bad season for Celtic and games were played behind closed doors. So, it would be safe to say that it has not been a neck-and-neck competition by any means. Maybe the league title race has been interesting a few times but that has been pretty much it when it comes to things being close between the two clubs.

It remains to be seen how this title race plays out. At the moment, it does look like Brendan Rodgers' side should be able to cruise.
