Midfielder rejects lucrative Celtic offer to join English club
Winning has not been a real problem for Celtic in recent years. They have brought home silverware on a consistent basis and have been the best team in Scottish football by a million miles. But that does not mean that there are no areas for the Hoops to improve in. One of them has to be their record of promoting academy standouts to the senior setup.
The last person to come through the ranks at Celtic and become a regular starter in the first-team was Kieran Tierney. It has been half a decade since he left for Arsenal.
In the current team, Callum McGregor is the only regular starter to have come from the Celtic academy. Players like Anthony Ralston, James Forrest, Mikey Johnston and Stephen Welsh have squad roles.
Daniel Kelly is someone who had high hopes surrounding him, especially after he impressed with his performances for the first-team last season. But it looks like his time at Celtic is coming to an end already even though he was offered the chance to continue.
Midfielder rejects lucrative Celtic offer to join English club
As reported by Football Insider, Kelly has rejected a “lucrative” Celtic contract offer to join Millwall. He has signed a pre-contract deal with the London club already.
Kelly's current deal with Celtic is believed to expire at the end of this year. But there have been suggestions that Millwall are keen to bring him in this summer itself and are looking to find a solution with the Hoops.
The aim being Kelly's move seems to be getting playing time. Clubs like Bayer Leverkusen and Tottenham Hotspur were believed to be interested in signing him as well but the pathway into the first-team is much clearer at Millwall. Unfortunately, Celtic's recent record in this regard would not fill any youngster with confidence.
